The hardware upgrade went relatively smooth (despite finding that I was out of ISA slots on firebird and had to use a different network card than I'd planned) and the Phoenyx was only off the network for about seven minutes. A few minutes of playing with routing tables (and dropping us off the net once) and we're now sending outbound connections through the ADSL line. Right now when you connect to phoenyx.net, you're coming in through the modem, and web connections will still be slow until we get entirely switched over which should happen in the next day or so. I'll let you know when that happens... you shouldn't see an interruption of any services. For those not in the know, DSL is Digital Subscriber Line, a high-speed option that runs on your regular phone line, much like a modem. But it can achieve much higher speeds than a regular modem because it requires special hardware at the phone company's switch to deal with it. It's "always on" so it requires a special filter/splitter at the house to filter out the digital signal so you can use your voice phone on the same line without the two affecting each other. This is very cool for two reasons... out-bound traffic is four times faster than the modem, in-bound is nearly ten times, and the big one for us, it saves us $120 a month over the cost of the slower dedicated modem. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners
