Hello :)

Just wanted to say Hello, and thank you for allowing me to run my game
here. I hope I don't disappoint anyone with my style of RP. (Someone had
questioned my definition of Simming, mind you, I don't think it's heavily
plotted. My problem with simming is others writing for my
characters. that's my job, the part of RP I enjoy. :) I simply had a bad
experience with a 'sim' when I first explored them and never could enjoy
them after that.)

Anyway, I _think_ I have the webpage the way I want it. And am asking any
who would like to take a look and over constructive criticism to feel free
to let me know what you think. Of course, the addy is (
http://www.phoenyx.net/stc ). I'm also ready to start accepting
applications/characters, so how do I go about having the 'ad' posted? I
wasn't sure if phoenyx.net had a email forms CGI so I used one from
'bravenet.com' if there is one, I'd like to know about it :)

I'd suggest acknowledgement of Paramount's trademark somewhere on the
page. I'm not going to ask if you have permission to use the graphics.

If I knew you said "addy" I might have reconsidered giving you a spot.

What exactly are we doing in this area, Karen?

We've got the BigNoseBird form script (bnbform.cgi). We're a version
behind, but I don't like some of the changes in the new form and I'm
trying to decide how to deal with them. (I hate changes that break
current forms.)

We don't have a documentation page for it yet, but if you go to
http://bignosebird.com/carchive/bnbform.shtml it has a copy of the
script with documentation and samples. The script we use is at
   http://www.wirebird.com/cgi-bin/bnbform.cgi
(Don't ask me why Karen stuck it in the Wirebird cgi directory, but that's
our site, too.)

I'm putting together the newsletter. I'm hoping to have the first bits
of the registration CGI together at the same time; I'm by no means
ready to switch any lists over, but some of the web stuff (like the
new-game registration) could start using it.

Sitewide (versus domain-wide) stuff goes there. Same like
safemail, although I ended up with a logical link in the Phoenyx cgi
dir. We could do the same with the form script.

I've disliked doing that in the event that the wirebird.com domain goes
away. If we're never going to really use it, I don't like to keep paying
for it.

Was looking for an appropriate statement to use last night, but company
came over before I finished... will have a statement up soon, and a lot of
the graphics are my personal creations :)

Are you using Perl forms? If so, I have a _little_ experience with them
from work, and would be happy to help, however I'm no "Wizard" with
them. ( 'Perl 5.0 for Dummiess' is my friend :)

There are a few good websites out there that offer free CGI's, and I've
used them to good purpose at work. I'll look up my bookmarks when I get to
work and make note of them for later.

It's Perl, but my problem isn't deciding how to modify it, but in deciding
whether to modify it. (Karen and I are both proficient coders... we
make/made our livings in the industry.) Once you start modifying code,
you can't just drop in new versions... you have to keep applying your
changes to every new version. I'm not sure it's worth moving to a new
version when the version I have works. (The newer one supposedly has
better security, though some of that security is through poor obscurity...
and that's the stuff that's changed. The internal file names now have
hidden extensions, but those extensions are hard-coded, so if you've seen
the script it's no security at all.)

bignosebird.com is one of them.
