One of my Kalyr players, Luke.Beales@pfizer.com is in bouncing status because his mail server was down a couple of weeks back. He claims not to have received any bounce notifications since then. 3 questions. 1) I got a message bounced as a 'disk full' error - Should this have put him in bounce status? 2) Sending a 'who' to majordomo@phoenyx.net doesn't tell me who's bouncing - how can I be sure it's him? 3) Can the listowner reset the bounce status of a subscriber? -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

Where are you seeing him in bouncing status? > 1) I got a message bounced as a 'disk full' error - Should this have > put him in bounce status? Not if you got the bounce. If you get an error, that means that he didn't get the mail, but that the server can't figure out who he was (it's pretty conservative about what types of error messages it recognizes right now), so it's turned over to you to deal with. Of course, *I* haven't seen the error, so either I've forgotten it (it happens; I tend to ignore disk-fulls) or else it's not being properly sent to the Sender: address. In some cases, evil mailers respond to the From: address. (Insert standard raving about how broken that is.) That tends to be pretty obscure stuff, though. > 2) Sending a 'who' to majordomo@phoenyx.net doesn't tell me who's > bouncing - how can I be sure it's him? I'm showing a message in the log from the 16th where it did tell you who was bouncing (no one, at the time). It calls them "suspended users." Right now, the only one you've got is wordmill@wordpr.com, who I'm showing was "user unknown" on the 9th, got a ping on the 10th and 16th and will get another in a week or so, in the (highly unlikely) event . > 3) Can the listowner reset the bounce status of a subscriber? Yes. But I really, really, really don't like them to, and in this case it's not necessary. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

I made an incorrect assumption that he was the bouncer on the basis that he'd told me he wasn't receiving mail. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

No, although if we're not getting the bounce messages, it means his mailer is sending them to the From: line, or not at all. I'm betting on the latter... if you're able to send him mail, it's pretty safe to say he (or rather, his service) *is* getting them, they're just getting discarded by an overenthusiastic spamfilter or something. Or his service is queueing them up (because listmail has a lower Precedence, although I think have the Precedence header turned off right now; look in the full headers of a list message to see) and just hasn't gotten around to delivering them yet. But my money's on a spamfilter. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners
