Oh, shoot... don't tell me that was you. And we even had an agenda and all. (My week's been kind of unusual and I completely forgot it was Wednesday for most of the day. I've stuck the meeting in my reminder file.) Karen, you want to schedule a meeting for this Saturday at 14:00 CDT instead? Can our European crowd make it on short notice? He was cute, but we decided not to keep him. The subsequent mentions are Tim Hall, and we're keeping him. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners/

"Do you want to > kill your sister?" "Yes!"] How old are your girls? I'm just getting my kids (son 8, daughters 4 and 1) into gaming, but the girls are pretty much too young to really play (the oldest girl likes moving paper miniatures and rolling dice, and she quite liked the Pokemon Jr Adventure Game (especially the picture of a hospitalized Pikachu)). Do you have any tips for getting them into gaming? chuk -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): Alien Light Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners/

Do you have any tips for getting them into > gaming? They're my little sisters. One is 8, and the other is four. We've been working on the eight-year-old for years, and she is a definite gamer. (We had her join as a dice monster when the family went gaming as she was younger, just to be part of the "group.") The four year old can't quite read all the dice yet, but she likes being part of the attention. I think that's the big thing; make it a group activity, be patient with them, and cater to their interests. The older one is interested in D&D, BESM, and we're going to try her on Feng Shui. Honestly, she isn't big on the rules; we do a lot of "This is what you need to roll for this," and encourage her to read the book, but that will come later. Right now we mostly want her to think her way out of puzzles. The younger one we play "Kobolds Ate My Baby!" and other light-hearted games. We try to bring in characters from cartoons she watches (guest appearance of the PowerPuff Girls!) and that keeps her attention. Honestly, the games the kids play without supervision are just roleplaying without the rules. As I write this message, the younger one is having a serious scene with the stuffed horse (minature) and the shopping cart. If I went and sat down with her, we could build a world around it. I joke about the Battletech because I want the older one to have a reason to learn her math... \\ Mb \\ mabarry@xpert.net Big Sister, and GM. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners/

I have happy childhood memories of playing that in Middle School, but it works with almost any ages. Even kids can understand attributes like "Pick Up Heavy Thing." Later.
