Discussion, mostly technical, about running Phoenyx groups goes here. Hypotheticals and wishlists go in stakeholders.

There is a mockup game profile page at

As with the member profile, it's subject to change, discussion,
whatever. The parts farther down, where the "what goes here"
description text is still in there (you'll know what I mean when you
see it) is actually one generation older; I have a more generalized
one somewhere that applies to PBIRC/PBW as well as PBEM, so
don't worry about those.

This is subtly different from the "group" profile. Group profiles apply
to all groups, including the chat groups. Game profiles apply to all
games, including non-Phoenyx games; this will replace the
Openings list. Group profiles cover things like number of
posts/members/etc, game profiles cover things like system,
character

One thing I want to put on there, that isn't there yet, is some quick
"rating" systems... not specifically quality ratings (those will
probably be there too, along with a more detailed "feedback" option
where people can express their opinions, sort of a guestbook
thing), but something more along the lines of "Where does your
game fall, if 1 is 'Over-the-top humor' and 5 is 'Depressing angst.'
Stuff so the potential players can take a first cut at deciding
whether they're interested or not.

So the question is, what are the important factors to rate? And
what items, on that page, should be non-optional? The first four
(five, for Phoenyx games, because that'll be autocreated) are,
probably, but after that?

First, another thing you might want to add to the page is something about
the system (if any) that the game is using, whether or not dice are used
(and how), and other things in that vein. You could even rate it as
something like "mechanics," where 1 is minimalist and 10 is esoteric.

On the optional/non-optional issue, as a prospective player, I'm going to
be looking for as much information about a game as is available, so I tend
to go with the "more is better" philosophy. Why not just make them all
mandatory, but let the GM write in "N/A" if he/she wants?

Later.

I'm still leery of involving the Phoenyx in games outside our community,
especially if there's no clear differentiation between any old game and a
high-quality Phoenyx game. We go to a lot of trouble to select the best
gamemasters and I don't want to dilute our image by advertising bad games.

Of course, we're already doing that (advertising bad games), and I don't
really have an objection so long as these games are *clearly* not a part
of the Phoenyx community and are not recommended by the Phoenyx staff as
being of any particular quality.
