Wednesday Volunteer Meetings

As you may recall, we've been having weekly "town meeting" chats
in the MOO discussing building the Phoenyx community. Volunteers
and potential volunteers are encouraged to attend.

I've elected myself "official reminder" and want to remind
folks that these meetings are 1) a lot of fun, and 2) very
important to what happens at the Phoenyx. If you want to have
input into the future, this is a good opportunity to make
	your voice heard!

Last week's meeting (August 29th, 2001) we discussed some
	of the following topics:

	* The next newsletter.
		- What should be in it?
		- What shouldn't be in it?

	* The current "new-game" slump.
		- Who should be recruiting new gamemasters?

	* Discussing job titles and responsibilities with the Phoenyx.

	* Irreverent items (as per always) on cars that gamers
drive, and is there a marketing niche, my eye colour, and
if it's funnier when Satchel says it related silliness.

	Next Wednesday's agenda (9/5/01)

	* Phoenyx etiquette:
		- The ground rules.
			- Encouraging lurkers to kibitz without
			  encouraging mayhem.
		- Adult content policies.
		- Good "anti-flame" rules for the discussion lists.
		- Turn language and standardizing player post formats.
			- Creating a default
			- Using things like pbemtools.
			http://www.pennmush.org/~alansz/pbemtools/

The chat starts in the Phoenyx MOO at 8:30p.m. Central time,
which is 7:30pm Mountain, and 9:30pm Eastern. We leave the
Pacific Timezone to figure it out as an exercise for the
student. For our European (and farther) staff, we will be
trying to schedule another Saturday meeting for this weekend
(September 8th, 2001) if we have enough interest.

	Further information is available at:
	http://www.phoenyx.com/listowners/volunteers.html

	Thank you!

Wednesday Volunteer Meetings

Meera,

will there be a recap of any actual policy decisions or topics that get
made/brought up for a vote/reminded of? The chances of my ever being able to
participate in a chat are super slim to extremely slim, but I want to pull
my weight, so if there is something I (or any other DM that is not able to
participate in that chats) need to voice an opinion on or make sure is being
complied with I would like to be able to do so.

Without trying to tread on the Phoenyx administrators' toes
(I am but a helpful lowly peon) I understand that they will
be the final arbitrators of any decisions raised by the
discussions and thus will disseminate the conclusion as necessary.

In other words, I expect we'll all hear about it via newsletter
	or web page (or both.)

In the meantime, the link I listed will provide you with
logs of the various chats for your perusal. I am fairly
certain that if you have opinions based on the discussions
that you can consider yourself welcome to share them, and
maybe get some list-based discussion as well...(as done
	in the past.)

Also, as was noted to me, it might be worth passing on to
members of your game; I copied it to the Glitter and the
Glamour mailing list and had to promise a couple of my
folks to remind them personally about the meetings so they
	could attend and get involved.

Well, I expect we'll end up discussing it here. But I'm not really
planning to make any changes, just codify what we've got.

The only thing we're liable to change is requiring lists with grownup-
only content to have a double opt-in, the second one happening
after a disclaimer gets sent out (the software does this already
automatically; UU, for example, had (has?) a "license agreement"
to join, since it's a game-design list and involved some pre-release
D20 stuff). Right now, we don't always clearly mark the games
with language or content issues, and I'd like to be a little more kid-
friendly in the event we get some games that appeal to a younger
demographic... we don't really want them wandering into other
Phoenyx games, having a bunch of foul language show up in the
mailbox they share with Mom and Dad, and have said parents
calling us and us not being able to say "Hey, they sent back the
disclaimer assuring us they were old enough to view that stuff,
don't believe them when they say they didn't know what they were
getting into."

Errm. I'm stealing my own thunder for tonight's chat.

Great, the logs should keep me up to date so that when discussions move here
I know what is going on. I've been wondering why it always seems like I have
missed a bunch of posts! :-)

Thanks,
