Sobig's had a hold of the various fudge-list addresses for quite awhile, but it looks like it's spread to several other lists... and with a new wrinkle, that it's forged mails from other autoresponders (such that some cookies got returned and some responders got subscribed). I've altered the behavior of the magic addresses slightly, so that you don't get to just reply, but have to forward the mail. This will change back when we get whitelisting implemented and can deflect bogus mail away from the magic addresses so that they can be convenient again. Bah. When I'd planned to spend the morning doing housekeeping, this wasn't what I had in mind. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners/
A trilobite cookie to whoever can tell me what's wrong with the following quote (hint: it's not technological): "Post-GorillaCon, we'll get the database moved from flamingo to roc, I'll make any necessary MySQL->PostgreSQL adjustments, and put everything in darcs or TWiki or whatever the heck we're going to use, and set up some test accounts on the SQL server." -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/managers/

I thought GorillaCon was one of the villains in Spirit of the Century... Putting "GorillaCon" into Google is rather amusing, actually :) As for what's wrong with the quote, I'm not sure. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): Kalyr Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/managers/

I just come up with a hit for Gorilla Consulting and the rest are for the convention (which started out at Pittsburg-no-h State University, whose mascot is a gorilla). On which subject: we'll be there this weekend, in the unlikely event anyone's in the neighborhood. (I'm pretty sure we don't have any managers from the KC/Joplin/Tulsa/Wichita region. But I've been wrong before, as that quote clearly indicates...) -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/managers/

I ran the search from google.co.uk (rather than google.com), and the third search result was a SQL error page. Presumably the googlebot crashed something :( > On which subject: we'll be there this weekend, in the unlikely event > anyone's in the neighborhood. It's a defense mechanism... I used to read them to see if I could see what was wrong, but these days I'm programming in MS-SQL (at work) and MySQL (the old Phoenyx server) and PostgreSQL (the new Phoenyx server) and if I should happen to read YA flavor of SQL my head would explode. (Partly because I'm also juggling Perl (Phoenyx), Delphi (work), and Javascript (both) with a side of HTML and CSS.) -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/managers/

I'm quitting the two-day-a-week Day Job and reallocating that time. Tuesdays will be Gamehawk, Thursdays will be getting the house on the market (another thing that's the same as it was this time last year). Or vice versa. (I'd've quit a long time ago, but I work for my sister's company as a contractor, and she's guilted me into staying. Enough's enough, though.) See, what got this started was that GorillaCon, like I said, is this weekend, and I finally got off my duff this week and got pgAdmin installed so I could get serious about moving the db to PostgreSQL, which is pretty much the last hump to get over with the new server. And it turned out not to be so bad, so I'm about ready to convert all the archives and get the show on the road, and I thought to myself, "I'd rather stay home and work on Gamehawk than go to the convention." And I had the *weirdest* feeling of deja vu, so I looked in the archives for the gamehawk@wirebird list, and yeah. After the flamingo thing, I later said: "I'm also not going to GorillaCon, because I have a mild bug. And because I wasn't interested in any of the listed games or panels, and would have just sat there with the laptop coding anyway." I may sit there with the laptop coding (or more accurately, installing/testing) *this* year (no bug so far) too. Carl's laptop, since my work laptop is, to be kind, crap. That's the other incentive to quit: the realization that if it wasn't my sister's company (er, she doesn't own it, she's just the director of IT and Accounting) I wouldn't put up with it. It's an interesting company to work for, if you're in one of the big departments that gets catered lunches every week or two and parties all the time... but they put their programmers in an itty bitty room (10x15, I believe, four cubes and a test station, and they're trying to put a fifth person at the test station, who will have to get up every time anyone but the guy closest the door wants to leave their desk) with seriously dysfunctional (swinging between 40 and 80 degrees F) HVAC, and I was telling Carl about the new guy's crazy laptop posture and he was surprised to learn we all have laptops and actually use their built-in screens and I said "Well, except mine they're all widescreens; mine's older but it's a 17-inch, or was until its backlight died" and Carl said "*We* have 24-inch LCD monitors" (and laptops *plus* desktops) and it occurred to me then that hey, this company is selling the code to other retailers and was at one time thinking of spinning it off into its own company and even so they don't *value* their IT people, and I could do better elsewhere and I'm going to have to tell my sister that, because she thinks *she's* somehow doing *me* a favor and yeah, I'm done whining. For now. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Game(s): The Whole Phoenyx Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/managers/
