MGR: We need a Wiki wrangler

We're making big changes in the web stuff around here, in preparation for
the big software changeover. Most of the changes will be transparent, but
one of the changes won't be: we won't be supporting the navbar anymore.

Instead, groups will have at least some (or all, unless they've got their
own site like Kalyr) web presence on the Phoenyx itself. I'm getting
ready to set the Wiki to "publish" mode, so that a static copy of any
given web can be found at http://www.phoenyx.net/gamename instead of
http://www.phoenyx.net/cgi-bin/twiki/bin/view/gamename.

This means that instead of using Drall to edit your piece of the website,
you'll just edit the Wiki, and then publish it. Even games with their own
offsite sites will have to have a minimal webpage here, just to hold the
basic stuff the navbar used to have.

What we need is somebody in charge of the Wiki, to set up skins for
gamemasters who want their webs to look speshul, to help gamemasters
convert their current stuff to Wiki text, to convert gamemasters to the
joys of Wiki, and to make sure the ex-navbar stuff is consistent across
games (i.e. when the web forums come online, making sure everyone's got
the right links to them, things like that).

It doesn't necessarily require coding skill, but some HTML knowledge and,
most importantly, *time* are essential.

I still haven't got round to removing the now-defunct banner exchange
code from umpteen pages. Serves me right for putting it there :)

Kalyr already has it's own Wiki as well as it's own side. I'm toyed
with the idea of moving all the gameworld information over to the
Wiki; there are a couple issues I'm concerned about: one is whether
it's appropriate to use resources from The Phoenyx to support my other
Kalyr game that runs on Dreamlyrics. The other is possibly a
non-issue concerning copyright; I've got a large volume of material
that represents a lot of writing effort; I don't want to find I've
inadvertantly signed away all rights to it by uploading it :)

I assume this is a version without all the editing links. A question
here; can you supress some pages that contain potential spoiler
information (More of an issue for shared-world games, where some
information useful for GMs might not be appropriate for players)

Farwell Drall. I won't miss it :)

I'm not volunteering *yet*; I don't know what my time availability
will be over the coming months (May well be looking for work again
from September, which will mean a lot of free time in the short term
with no idea how long for)

Once your Dreamlyrics folks compare the Phoenyx web interface to the
evilness that is UBB, they'll demand you move it over here anyway. (And
I'll turn the NNTP server back on, too.)

Copyright has always been an odd issue. Basically, the present rule is
that the copyright stays with the creator, but the Phoenyx gets a
nigh-unlimited license to use it. It's pretty open-ended because I
don't want to hire a lawyer to make it more clear... the intent is to
prevent anybody from saying "I want to take all my marbles and go home"
and making us Swiss-cheese our archives to remove their messages, or
making a gamemaster retcon their character out, or something weird like
that.

Editing links are optional. The default will be to leave them in, but
that depends on whether the GM wants to leave it open or not.

I haven't decided what to do about spoilers. The "publish" option lets
you select pages to publish, but it might be a pain to put in wildcards
along those lines. I'm inclined to figure out how to do some sort of
spoiler tag, that will either be pagewide, or will be used to delimit
stuff on a page. But that's mostly up to the Wiki wrangler.

Lot of that going around...
