Discussion, mostly technical, about running Phoenyx groups goes here. Hypotheticals and wishlists go in stakeholders.

MGR: AOL blocks AOL

Well, okay, not quite.

If you're reading the Fudge List, you already know most of this.

When an AOL member posts to a Phoenyx list, the mail gets sent out with an
AOL name in the From line, back to everyone who subscribes, including (we
assume) the original poster and any other AOL subscribers on the list.

Aaaaand then AOL's server goes "Aaaaaah! AOL-labeled mail from outside! A
forgery!" and doesn't even care that it's a mailing list (helLO you
morons, that's what Sender is *for*), and rejects it.

Sucks.

I'm thinking about what to do, besides telling them "Get a provider that
allows you to at *least* manage your own whitelist." In the meantime, I'm
suppressing the auto-unsubscribe function, but that still means any AOL
subscribers will miss any posts from other AOL subscribers (including
themselves).

I guess I could CUSTOM WRITE CODE TO MUNG THE AOL ADDRESS JUST FOR THE AOL
RECIPIENTS, but why pander to a provider like that?

(Why yes, getting blocked from somewhere, anywhere, *does* make me
grumpy...)
