Discussion, mostly technical, about running Phoenyx groups goes here. Hypotheticals and wishlists go in stakeholders.

MGR: Big change.

(Though if we do it right, it should be barely noticeable.)

We're looking seriously at moving the Phoenyx to a hosting service.
Bandwidth, as I've mentioned previously, is expensive out here, and we're
starting to feel the pressure, mostly in our non-Phoenyx services (I'd
like to have lots and lots of purty graphics for my business, for one
thing).

We'd also like to spend more time building the Phoenyx as a community, and
less time battling the little details of administering the site.

So we're looking at dreamhost.com, which will pretty much give us
everything we have now, and then some. Or so it appears from reading up
on them. Anybody heard anything negative about them?

MGR: Big change.

As I don't really know the company, I did a simple google search for
dreamhost opinion.
I found many pages, and almost all of them are good. I only managed to
find 2 bad opinions in the first pages! That is a very high satisfaction
ratio for a host.

Best wishes, Bruce

Yeah, we've been googling and technoratiing and finding pretty much
nothing but good news... they get dinged for their bittorrent policy, but
they seem to be trying to get that worked out, and it doesn't affect *us*
any. They seem to be staying out of the blocklists, except SPEWS, and I
don't see how any large web host could possibly stay out of that, so I'm
not going to take that too seriously. Heck, we're probably in SPEWS now.

At any rate, Carl signed us up last night, so we're on our 97-day trial
period. More bandwidth, and about $24/month cheaper than what we're doing
now. (Net, after you count the fact that we'll still have to have a
non-business connection here.)

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, though.
