With the new release, the web forum side is marginally usable. I'm dogfooding that right now, so after I get a better feel for it I'll have more to do on it. Meanwhile, however, I'm turning my primary attention to the email side, because as long as the Firehawk version is still doing its email, Gamehawk is somewhat limited. I've turned on mail distribution, which means that Gamehawk will be sending out posts to all its subscribers... which hopefully is no one but me just now. However, if people start to receive doubled list posts, let me know. Shortly, I'll be asking for volunteers to subscribe to Gamehawk directly, and after that all works I'll move lists over. (Current subscribers won't have to resubscribe, and won't notice much of a change if we do everything right.) The roadmap, if you've forgotten or are new: http://www.phoenyx.net/stakeholders/2006/03/msg00007.html You'll notice that the next step after this will drop Firehawk from the loop altogether (it's been with us a long time, so we'll have a wake, I think) and after that... things start to get *fun*. -- Karen J. Karen, Any idea when we'll be able to switch between identities? I've had a bit of a revelation about the nature of the campaign the Realms is mutating into, in terms of storyline and format but to pull it off properly I need to be able to switch between quite a few different identities (ideally with no sign of "who" is the ghost inside the character so to speak) - the ultimate goal is to have the players unsure who exactly is in their group and who is a NPC by me. It's pretty critical for building the suspense of the plot I have in mind (it's a bit of a "whodunit"). Mike Karen J. Cravens wrote: >With the new release, the web forum side is marginally usable. [id]entities are kind of pointless right now, since Firehawk is still managing email distribution and it leaves the email address there for all to see. Gamehawk will be distributing messages with phoenyx.net From: lines (which will eliminate a huge amount of false positives on recipients' spam filters). However, as tentatively set up, it will be something like "From: Karen Cravens". Now, the name part is from the entity, but the KarenCravens is my username here. I suppose there's no reason not to just put the entity id there, which would currently leave me with four: +-----------------------------------------------+ | entity | +-----------------------------------------------+ | Karen Cravens | | Karen Cravens | | Karen J. Cravens | | KarenCravens.6171458 | +-----------------------------------------------+ The system knows that entities 1, 196, 281, and 345 all belong to username KarenCravens. Of course, this assumes that we have a way to either hide entities (presently if you look at http://www.phoenyx.net/wirebird/KarenCravens/profile.html you'll see those four names) or that your players can be trusted not to go look at your profile. I sort of like the latter case better, since that way interested lurkers can look at the profile for an omniscient view, but there's no compelling technological reason not to be able to have "private" entities. -- Karen J. What I've come up with is a somewhat intricate plot that involves weaving NPCs into and out of the story - it's not critical that the players are completely naive as to who is a NPC and who is a player but it would help with the suspension of reality and helps me pass information along to the party without them knowing that it's "god" speaking to them. I could probably live with the "posts just show entity" option although ideally it would be great if there was an option to turn off the option to see all my identities. Karen J.
