This time, a *question*

Last month, I posted some thoughts on the future of the Phoenyx. Nobody
commented, possibly because (as Carl pointed out) I didn't actually *ask*
anything, just threw some thoughts out. So.

As some of you may have noticed, Tim brought over a piece of a managers@
discussion about the Phoenyx Ikonboard installation. I also have an
Ikonboard over at the other site, and am very tempted to pack up Gamers
and move it there. Email subscription is one-way (you can receive
messages, but you have to go to the web to reply), there is an RSS feed,
but other than that it's straight-up web forum.

I'm of mixed feelings on the whole thing... a part of me wants to just
advertise the site everywhere *else* and see how it develops without an
obvious link to the Phoenyx. But another part of me wants to go over to
GAMERS and say "Okay, mailing list is shutting down here. Everybody go to
(link to Ikonboard on the other site) and register, see ya there."

Does anybody else have any feelings on the matter? Especially Fudge List
owner and managers, since the Fudge List is the next obvious candidate for
that (though probably not until we're on Gamehawk).

Well, my question would be, what effect this would have on the Celandra
list? As you've pointed out in the past, most of us over there have a
posting style that, to put it charitably, doesn't work well with webfora.

As a PBeM, Celandra would stay on the Phoenyx under this scheme. (And
frankly, I'd grandfather anybody's discussion list they want to keep here,
but GAMERS and the Fudge List are pretty much it, and those are mine and
Carl's respectively.)

As to whether you want to move it to Ikonboard now, that's an interesting
question. With Celandra being so turn-based, it might actually help with
organization (it can be set up such that only GMs can open a new thread,
and they can lock old ones, so you could, for example, set up very
specific places for Turn N Results, Turn N+1 Submissions, and out-of-game
discussion), and if people are *posting* via web they tend to quote in a
web-friendly manner. And with email notification they hopefully wouldn't
forget to come check it.

So it's really up to you, I guess. If you want to give it a shot, you're
welcome to.

GAMERS isn't exactly lively right now, nor has it been for a while. I
don't think it would really survive the transition. And I'm not sure that
would bother me.

In any case, I'm already over there, as you've noticed.

Oh, I think it would survive, in the sense that "it" is you, me, Carl,
Roger, Chuk, Tim, and Bill.

I mean, it's not as if it would get any worse.

Which "there"? I'm talking about moving GAMERS to... oh, heck, I'm tired
of dancing around it: Gameropolis.

Specifically, here:

http://www.gameropolis.com/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=SF;f=2

And right not, *nobody's* there (since I haven't announced it anywhere
yet. Well, except for here, soon's I hit send).

True.

Ah. OK. You should have been more clear.

OK, *now* I'm over there. :-)
