The new server

As mentioned in the news feed, we're 99% on the new server now. Mail is being forwarded from the less-new server for handling on the new server, the only thing the less-new server does anymore (and soon will stop). Once mail is transferred, we won't be dependent on any of the machines in our basement anymore, which I suppose means Phoenyx World Headquarters is a hosting service somewhere now. This is probably a good thing, since we're scheduled for Round 2 of the ice storm tomorrow afternoon. (We've had no power losses yet, but Round 1 was pretty mild.)
The new server is now handling www.phoenyx.net, along with forum.phoenyx.net and wiki.phoenyx.next (which it's been doing for awhile now). If you noticed a slowdown earlier today, it was the transfer of the 300MB(!) database from the less-new to the new server.
So now: whew. And now I get to set up the new test/dev setup, so that I can start the next release cycle. Whee!

Karen, the Celandra list is experiencing some strange behavior: messages being sent to moderation that shouldn't be, and when I approved them, what got posted to the list were blank messages.

The new server

I just answered this over there before I saw this, but to recap: yes, this weekend we moved the mail handling over to the new server, which means the newest release of the software, which may mean some new and interesting behaviors. On the plus side, I'm now not trying to maintain the newest release for the web and the next-newest release for email (and trying to remember to apply the same patches to the newest release). So once I get things ironed out, we should be more stable overall.
The messages look okay in the web interface, so I just need to figure out under what conditions they're not getting emailed out properly.

The new server

Here's an example of the messages I'm getting--they all, according to the server, failed to contain any readable text. Maybe the reason my message posted successfully was because I normally send plain-text instead of HTML? I'm currently using Yahoo! Mail's web interface to post, maybe when I use Sea Monkey at home I'll have problems like everyone else.
The following message has been directed to you for moderation: Group: celandra Sender: Chad Powell Subject: [Actions] Anaduan - year ??? This message does not appear to have any readable text.
To approve this post, reply to this message, keeping the authorization code MOD.celandra.14420.1197305734 in the subject. The body of the reply will be ignored, so you do not need to include the message to be approved. To cancel this post, reply to this message, changing the authorization code to CAN.celandra.14420.1197305734 in the subject. (Remove the MOD.celandra.14420.1197305734 code to do so!) If no action is taken, this post will be cancelled in 30 days. Message text follows:

The new server

under what conditions
Answer: When the messages are getting converted to text/plain, the header was being left as was, which meant that some were alleged to be multipart messages and weren't really. It should be fixed now.
